About me

About Me
I’m Sarah McDonough, a qualified person-centred counsellor offering supportive, down-to-earth counselling for adults.
Lancashire based person centred counsellor
I became a counsellor because I’m genuinely passionate about helping people. I believe that everyone deserves to feel heard, understood and supported, especially during the times when life feels overwhelming. My approach is warm, steady and approachable, making it easier for you to talk honestly and explore what’s going on beneath the surface.
My approach
I work using person-centred counselling, which means our sessions focus entirely on you — your experiences, your goals and what matters most to you. I won’t judge, diagnose or tell you what to do. Instead, I’ll listen carefully, reflect with you and help you make sense of your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.
Clients often describe my style as:
> Calm and supportive
> Easy to talk to
> Non-judgemental
> Empowering
> Genuinely caring
Who I work with
I support adults dealing with a wide range of challenges, including:
- Anxiety and ongoing stress
- Low confidence or low self-esteem
- Relationship or family issues
- Overwhelm or emotional fatigue
- Life transitions and uncertainty
- General unhappiness or feeling “stuck”
- ADHD-related challenges, such as emotional intensity, organisation difficulties or feeling easily overwhelmed
- Wanting space to understand yourself better
Whether your difficulties are recent or have been building for a long time, counselling gives you a safe, confidential space to explore them.
What you can expect from me
When you work with me, you can expect someone who:
- Takes the time to understand you
- Listens without judgement or assumptions
- Offers consistent, reliable support
- Creates a space where you can speak freely
- Helps you build clarity, confidence and emotional balance
Counselling isn’t about being told what to do — it’s about having the space to figure things out with the support of someone who genuinely cares.
